Bluegrass Jam Session

We had a jam session and show Saturday at Mt. Ida, Arkansas. The jam started at 3 pm and went to 7 pm. The show was 2 one hour sessions by a band. Then the jam resumed at 9 pm. I left at 11 pm and the jam was still going on.

This is an every Saturday event in Mt Ida. It is supported by the County. They have built a stage on one end of the Square and a concession stand on the other for our convenience. The bands range from blues to bluegrass, but the jam is always bluegrass. A good ...

Acoustic Bass vs an Up-right or Double Bass

Does anyone think that with the gas prices, smaller vehicles, better quality PA systems etc.... that regular acoustic Basses (looks like a large Dreadnaught or J series Acoustic guitar) will make a comeback and replace the Up-right? The vehicles of the future will probably be smaller in response to the gas racket, at least for a while. Some of the up-right basses will be larger than the cars.

Old time music is my kind of music. None of the rock style new country for me. I played with agroup thatdid only Civil War music from the South. We played only Civil War reenactments, and did several of them. Had a lot of fun.

Old timey is what I play on the fiddle. Most of the tunes I play are in the public domain. There are some good new tunes, but mist of thegood ones are the old ones. Billy in the Lowground, turkey in the Straw, Arkansas Traveler, and I could go on and on.

My favorite is Helicore Heavy. I like the way they sound but I cannot get more than 3 or 4 months use out of them.

Bass guitar vs. upright bass

The bass guitars seem to be quite a bit cheaper, than the uprights. So that's mainly why I'm looking at them. But my question is, as far as playability, which is easier?

Who is Snuffy Smith Company? I've used their bridges for at least 20+ years and still don't know where, who or what the company is? Currently I have one of their bridges on my Stelling also received a snuffy smith bridge on my Sullivan when I bought it.

Upright Bass Key/neck positions

Can anyone recommend either a web site or know of any other easily accessible venue that illustrates the Bass neck finger position per string for the normal keys? Example G, C, D or E, A, B or A, D, E etc. I know sometimes it�s referred as a L pattern.
